Abiral Dairy Pvt Ltd
Established in 2021, currently employing 13 staff and sourcing from over 6,000 smallholder dairy farmers, Abiral Dairy Pvt Ltd consolidates milk from collection centres in Rautahat and Bara (Province 2) and supplies it in bulk to larger dairy processors, primarily in Kathmandu valley. Of the 10,000 litres collected daily, 5% is retailed locally as raw milk and ghee. The company has identified chhurpi as a key value-added product for export as dog chew. After significant R&D, they now produce regular and flavoured dog chew bars (e.g., strawberry, coconut, turmeric), as well as innovative products like crunchy bars, puffed nuggets, dog biscuits, protein powder, and shredded chew. These are marketed under the brand “Yala Himalayan Dog Chews.”

Commercialisation of the Dairy Sector through Increased Aggregation and Decentralised Product Diversification
CASA partnered with Abiral Dairy for eight months to expand milk aggregation, manage surplus through diversifying dairy products, and enhance smallholder farmers’ climate resilience. The project focused on improving market access for the dairy’s products domestically and internationally while strengthening its supply chain.
With a blend of small grants and technical assistance from CASA valued at £40,603, Abiral identified seven potential sourcing locations, among which it has opened three new milk collection centres in Ramdashi, Bhasedwa, and Judibela, providing secure market access to an additional 430 smallholder dairy farmers. Abiral has expanded into production of mozzarella cheese and redesigned its packaging and labelling for 35 products. Abiral’s extension staff now have a training manual to help their supplier dairy farmers adapt to and cope with climate change and plans to gradually provide training to all its smallholder suppliers.
