Bhawani Dairy
Established in 2019, BDC Foods Pvt. Ltd., also known as Bhawani Dairy, is based in Chitwan District, a dairy hub in Nepal. The company processes around 10,000 liters of milk daily, producing a range of dairy products. Half of the milk goes into making *chhurpi*, a unique product marketed internationally as a dog chew, while the rest is used for traditional dairy items. Bhawani Dairy’s product lineup includes yogurt, paneer, lassi, butter, ghee, *chhurpi*, and pasteurized milk.
Bhawani Dairy operates primarily in Bharatpur, Chitwan, in the Bagmati Province, employing a team of 45 individuals. For more information, visit their website (https://www.bhawanimilk.com/) or connect with them on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/bhawanidairy).
Support Growth and Expansion of Agri-Business through Innovation and Product Diversification
This project supports Bhawani Dairy in enhancing product quality, expanding production capacity, and boosting exports of *chhurpi* and ghee. CASA has provided Good Manufacturing Practices training to help smallholder farmers improve milk quality and adopt climate adaptation measures like cattle waste management.
In the initial phase, CASA helped Bhawani Dairy create an investment memorandum to secure funding for growth, with the company now seeking a debt investment of £36,774 and working toward a loan from Nabil Bank. This investment will enable Bhawani Dairy to broaden its product line and increase production.
CASA is also strengthening Bhawani Dairy’s marketing and branding efforts for domestic sales, supporting infrastructure improvements, and conducting a process audit to optimize energy use, cut costs, and lower emissions. The 12-month project includes technical assistance and grant support, aiming to train 1,500 dairy farmers by December 2024.
