Effectiveness of agri-business incubation: in emerging markets.

Abstract

  • Agribusiness incubators are a key contributor to developing economies. This report provides an investigation into the effectiveness of agribusiness incubators at generating additional investments in developing countries and emerging markets.

  • The results of this investigation show that several agricultural incubators have had demonstrable success in graduating companies out of their programmes to attract further commercial funding, thereby greatly improving the chances of survival of start-up agribusinesses during the first three years of activity.

  • The report notes that agribusiness incubators are highly dependent on donors and state funding for their operation. Capital providers are recommended to support incubators by financing high risk activities, letting the private sector finance incubators’ support low risk activities. In addition, support can be provided by enabling better partnerships and links between investors and both incubators themselves and selected incubatees.
