Phase 1: state of play review of climate risk assessment guidance.
Abstract
This report reviews the current state of play of climate risk assessment practice and guidance for financial institutions, including guidance related to disclosures under a number of voluntary and regulatory frameworks.
In particular, this report reviews sector-specific guidance for agriculture and agribusiness investments.
It is recommended that common ground should be sought on key factors, to help improve comparability of climate-related disclosures, as well as to start to build up a body of best practice and enhancement of tools and methods for future uses. Regarding smallholder-generated data for climate risk assessment, current examples remain few and far between partly because of the high capital costs for smallholders to invest in high-tech monitoring equipment. Financial institutions should look to support pioneering organisations that are supporting innovative approaches to smallholder-generated data systems, and invest in scaling-out successful pilot projects.
