Established in 2014, National Biotech is one of Nepal’s few companies engaged in the production and distribution of organic fertilisers in Provinces 2 and 3. Alongside fertilisers, the company offers a diverse range of organic products that complement its existing offerings, including vitamins, soil conditioners, bio soil, bone meal (used as a plant supplement), and oil cake for nitrogen enrichment. With a focus on sustainable agriculture, National Biotech continues to expand its product line to support soil health and crop productivity. The company currently employs 11 full-time staff.

Promotion of Organic Fertiliser as an Alternative to Rising Chemical Fertiliser Price and Its Unavailability 

The 18-month project (January 2023 – September 2024), in response to the rapidly rising costs of chemical fertilisers as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, included both technical assistance and grants, with a total support package of £35,157 through which CASA supported National Biotech in piloting a business model that promotes the use of locally produced organic fertilisers and improves access to affordable, high-quality fertilisers in Nepal. Through this partnership, National Biotech connected with farmers to enhance productivity and yields by developing and distributing environmentally friendly organic fertilisers. With CASA’s support, the company expanded its services to Province 5 and additional districts in Province 2, tapping into the growing market demand. The project also promoted organic fertiliser use among farmers and agrovets, fostering greater adoption and creating sustained demand. Brought into the supply chain were 4,206 new farmers together with those already in for a total of 4,991 (61% women) who were provided training on the usage and benefits of organic fertilisers using demo-plots.
