Boosting Productivity and Competitiveness of Agribusiness through Aggregation, Diversification, and Market Expansion
CASA’s partnership with Paicho Pasal showcased a successful model for agri-processors, emphasizing direct sourcing from smallholder farmers and distribution to consumers, bypassing middlemen. Inspired by this, CASA discovered Pahadi Foods, which targets larger platforms like supermarkets, big marts, and online channels, unlike Paicho’s focus on local retail outlets. Lessons from Paicho’s use of local retail networks offer valuable insights for Pahadi’s strategy.
Pahadi Foods buys in bulk from farmers, processes and packages goods, and sells directly to consumers via large retailers and online platforms. This model ensures farmers a stable market and income while reducing uncertainty. By bypassing traditional dealers, Pahadi offers competitive prices, maintains quality, and improves supply chain efficiency. The company plans to expand into small-scale retail stores, a strategy supported by CASA’s 12-month partnership (September 2024 – September 2025) that will provide technical assistance and a grant of £51,668, aiming to benefit 5,000 farmers.
