Poshilo Foods Pvt Ltd

Established in 2021, Poshilo Foods is a privately owned nutritional food manufacturing company based in Pokhara. It focuses on the research, development, and production of Satu, a Nepalese indigenous food traditionally made from roasted and ground grains like chickpeas and wheat. Satu is becoming popular among younger generations as a healthy meal replacement for protein shakes, energy drinks, and porridge. Poshilo is pioneering the development of a standardised line of branded Satu that combines traditional grains with superfoods to cater to modern tastes. The company offers four products: Multigrain for kids and the elderly, Nutty Delight for working adults, Protein Plus for mothers and beginner gym-goers, and Nutri Plus for trekkers, hikers, and regular gym-goers. Raw materials include wheat, maize, chickpeas, and superfoods such as flaxseed and almonds.  Currently operating in Province 4, Poshilo has 21 employees.

Improving the Competitiveness of Agribusiness through Product Diversification and Extensive Marketing

This partnership with Poshilo (from January 2024 to July 2025) aimed to demonstrate how strategic support – covering financing, supply chain strengthening, marketing, operational training, and export certification – can help a food company scale up production, improve product quality, expand market reach (including cross-border exports), and position itself as a leader in its field while empowering smallholder suppliers and promoting sustainable practices.

CASA’s support enabled an additional 1,002 smallholder farmers (79% women) to be meaningfully integrated into Poshilo’s supply chain, diversified the product portfolio, developed the brand, and strengthened export readiness, and operations. It also facilitated debt and equity financing, after which Poshilo secured £309,000 in investment. This funding enabled the company to expand production capacity through a new semi-automatic plant in Birtamode and to launch new products such as flavored Satu varieties, Nutri-bars, and “Mum’s Delight” targeted at lactating mothers. These products gained traction and were stocked in major department stores and gyms.

The company also acquired FSSAI certification, unlocking access to the Indian export market. On the marketing front, the “Poshan by Poshilo” campaign, implemented in collaboration with a nutrition-focused NGO, reached 11 schools across Provinces 3 and 4, raising awareness of healthy eating among students, parents, and teachers. Operationally, CASA supported the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) policy, with staff members trained in their implementation. Both frameworks were being revised to align with the context of the newly established facility.

The partnership highlighted the importance of cooperative federations in strengthening SME supply chains and demonstrated how collaborations can unlock markets, expertise, and growth. Poshilo strategically partnered with NACCFL through CASA, gaining access to their extensive network of trained suppliers and cooperative groups. This collaboration enabled Poshilo to streamline its procurement process by sourcing all required raw materials through a single, reliable channel: Kisan ko Poko (Farmers Basket). Despite earlier challenges, the partnership successfully laid the groundwork for Poshilo’s long-term growth, national leadership, and regional export readiness in the health food sector.
