Strengthening Market Linkages for a Centre for Smallholder Poultry Production

This project demonstrated the effectiveness of promoting horizontal linkages among smallholders to enhance their competitiveness against large players.

Completed in February 2024, in this 12-month project CASA partnered with SMPFA to strengthen its capacity to effectively enhance its policy lobbying and advocacy role, support 2,500 smallholder farmers in accessing inputs at more affordable prices, and negotiate and secure credit from financial institutions. In 2021, through SMPFA, smallholder farmers held a meeting with the Ministry of Trade and Industry to address issues related to the monopolistic practices of large players. At a total cost of £64,689, the CASA contribution of £61,917 included technical assistance and a grant.
