Bringing Investment to Support and Expand Vegetable Packhouse

Himalayan Supervores is a private company that piloted the vegetable packhouse and processing business model. The company specialized in processing and ozone washing its products, which were well-received by customers during the Covid-19 pandemic. Following the end of the pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns, as the hospitality sector resumed operations and demand for quality Nepalese vegetables in international markets increased, Supervores saw an opportunity to scale up and expand their business model globally. With this encouraging outlook, CASA provided support to help the company leverage investment from banks for the expansion of its packhouse and to strengthen its smallholder supply chain by incorporating new farmers as suppliers and training them in Good Agricultural Practices.

The project also provided technical assistance to build the company’s capacity and improve product quality and demand through training in cold chain management, sanitation, machine handling, and business-to-business marketing. To facilitate entry into foreign markets, the project focused on streamlining production operations and supply chain processes to achieve Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certifications. The duration of the project was from November 2021 to September 2023, with a total cost of £12,573 for both technical assistance and grants provided by CASA.
