Safal Krishi Farm Pvt Ltd

Safal Krishi Farm Pvt Ltd was established in 2015 by Mr Safi Mohammad Gujar, a farmer-turned-entrepreneur who also owns a small dairy company in the same locality. Mr Safi’s motivation to produce ketchup stemmed from seeing local farmers throwing tomatoes onto the streets due to low prices during the flush season. The idea behind starting the business was the easy availability of tomatoes during this period and the rising demand for local ketchup, driven by the growth of local hotels and restaurants in his immediate surroundings. Additionally, the high profit margins in ketchup production and sales further motivated Mr Safi to register Safal Krishi Farm as a separate company, distinct from his dairy business, to focus on ketchup production.

With support from CASA, Safal Krishi Farm received technical assistance to develop business plans and marketing strategies, and fulfill compliance requirements, all of which made the company investment-ready and helped attract investments. Upon securing the required investments, CASA assisted the company in upgrading its factory, which included installing cold storage, setting up a lab, and providing capacity development for staff to ensure high-quality production. CASA also supported the company in enhancing its branding and packaging to appeal to new market segments and helped develop a reliable supply chain of farmers for sourcing high-quality tomatoes during the flush season.

The 15-month project ran from September 2020 to December 2021, with a total technical assistance and support package amounting to £43,989, consisting of £20,096 for technical assistance and £23,893 as a grant. The initiative reached and trained 400 farmers to improve their practices and strengthen the supply chain for tomato procurement.
